Me and plastic bags... I can't stop blogging about it.
Did you know that worldwide, about 1 million plastic bags are used every minute? Most of these are regular old grocery bags, but there's a whole bunch of other types of bags that are included in those... today, I'm thinking about sandwich bags... those delightfully helpful little ziploc baggies that are used for everything from storing leftover pasta sauce for the freezer to packing a sandwich for lunch. Sure they're convenient, but is that really the best solution to packing up snacks or leftovers?
Nope.
If you're looking at foods that don't need to be heated (like donuts, cookies, or pb&j), try packing them in reusable plastic containers (I get the heebie jeebies about these still... considering all the nasty stuff that offputs from these little plastic tubs). If you can handle the weight, there are some pretty nice (albeit heavy) containers made of pyrex. Wash them out when you're done... then keep reusing them! Besides being better than throwing out a couple of plastic bags every day, you'll save a bit of cash. Those plastic baggies add up when you're blowing through a couple of them every day.
hugs,
cielo
