HOBOISTIC DILEMMAS

Okay folks. I need some help here. On Veteran's Day we had a massive windstorm that shook up the county pretty good. You know, wrecked barns, downed power lines, and trees toppled kind of deal. I had a big pine tree top land in the middle of my pristine meadow and quickly cleaned it up with.......umm....Lynne's chain saw? So much for Mr. Carbon Zero huh? So then i had to go figure all the carbon i was spewing running that thing, Which wasn't easy cause nowhere could i find a website that said how to calculate the carbon from a chainsaw. In the end i just aligned my usage with a lawn mower and figure i got it fairly close. So, here's my issue, when i took a walk up the river to our favorite pine forest, i discovered over 40 large pine trees had been broken off, tipped over, etc. The place was like a park before the storm. The local Land Trust is in the process of trying to secure the land so developers won't ruin it with tons of ugly mansions ( we saw the plot map. Not a pretty sight). Now I have offered my chain saw services to help clean up all the downed trees. This is a way for me to contribute to the neighborhood and clean up a peice of land that i love, plus it keeps an angry logger from going in and taking his personal problems out on innocent trees. But if i am trying to have as low a carbon year as possible, should i not do this work? Hmmm. Surely this will not be the only dilemma i have to face between now and next september, the end of the 12 month carbon zero experiment. What do you think? This kind of stuff keeps me up at night. Help! HOBO
